Gov. Terry Branstad held a ceremonial signing of House File 630 this week that allows Missouri River Energy Services to receive a sales tax exemption on the development of a hydroelectric generating facility at the Red Rock dam. The $224 million hydroelectric plant will generate approximately 36 megawatts with the capacity of generating 55 megawatts during peak water flows. Construction is slated to begin this year with the plant planned to be operational in 2016. Members of Missouri River Energy Services attended the signing ceremony, as did Rep. Dan Kelley, D-Newton, and Rep. Greg Heartsill, R-Columbia, House members representing Jasper County. You can read more on the project here.
