The number of homes sold in Newton in 2013 and the average sales price were at their highest point in five years, statistics released by the Newton Board of Realtors on Monday indicate.
A total of 261 residential properties with a Newton mailing address sold in Newton last year, up 28 from the year before and 74 more than in 2010, the low point over the five-year period.
The average sales price of a residential property in Newton last year was $99,354, nearly $12,000 higher than the year before and approximately $4,000 higher than the previous high-point in the five-year period.
The Newton Board of Realtors reported that a total of 15 residential properties sold in December 2013 with a price range of $13,000 to $181,297.
The average number of days a residential property stood on the market last year was 104, the statistics show. Only the 96 days reported in 2010 was lower over the five-year period.
The information provided by the local Realtors group includes single family homes, condos and townhouses. Residential properties outside the Newton city limits that have a Newton mailing address are also included. Private sales are not included.
