A Newton man faces a felony charge for allegedly obtaining more than $7,000 in unemployment insurance benefits while working at another job.
Robert D. Stanton, 39, was charged with fraudulent practices in the second degree, a Class D felony, after filing unemployment claims from October 2012 to March 2013 where he collected $7,718 in jobless benefits.
During the time period, the complaint states, Stanton was employed by Hawkeye Stages and collecting wages. He failed to report his earnings to Iowa Workforce Development.
Stanton was given several opportunities to appeal Iowa Workforce's findings, but failed to respond to notices.
He was released to appear.
