Last year's appointee to the Second Ward Newton City Council seat filed her nomination papers on Tuesday to seek election to a full term on the council.
Evelyn George, who was appointed to the council last December to fill the remaining term of Mike Hansen who a month earlier had been appointed Mayor due to the resignation of Chaz Allen, will have her name appear on the Nov. 5 ballot as she seeks election to her first four-year term.
George was appointed over Larry Johnson who also sought appointment to the open Second Ward seat.
Two others have also filed for open seats on the council, but at this time no competitive races have been set.
Two-term Fourth Ward council member Steve Mullan has filed papers to seek a third term on the council. Newcome Lin Chape has filed for the open At-large seat currently held by Dennis Julius. Julius is not seeking re-election.
Newton Mayor Mike Hansen has indicated he plans to seek election to his first full term as mayor but has yet to file nomination papers.
Individuals interested in any of the four open seats have until 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to file nomination petitions with the Newton City Clerk.
