This past weekend, Andrea Smith of Newton was honored during the 39th Annual Variety Telethon. Smith was presented the special Jay & Judy Rosenberg Award for her continued support of the Variety Telethon. Smith has been working behind the scenes at the annual telethon for 12 of the last 13 years. The last four years, she has volunteered her time training and overseeing the members of the telephone panels charged with taking incoming pledge calls. Pictured are Stanley Reynolds, left, CEO of Reynolds & Reynolds and one of the founders of the Variety the Children's Charity, Smith, Brook Rosenberg, Judge Scott Rosenberg and Kent Rosenberg, three sons of Jay and Judy Rosenberg. Variety the Children's Charity of Iowa is dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged, at-risk and special needs children. This year's telethon raised $3.6 million for kids in Iowa.

Smith recognized with Rosenberg volunteerism award
