- Christopher Pierce, 43, of Colfax was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment at 7:46 p.m. Friday after police were called to 303 S. 3rd Ave. E. Apt. 3 on a report of the smell of burning marijuana eminating from the apartment. Upon arrival, a Newton police officer allegedly observed Pierce through a window smoking what later field tested positive as marijuana from a glass pipe. After waiting for back up, police entered the apartment and found a baggie of marijuana and the glass pipe. A 6-year-old female in the non-custodial care of Pierce was in the apartment at the time. Adam R. Brown, 21, of Newton was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the incident. Both men were taken to the Jasper County Jail.
- William Harbour, 58, of Newton was charged with public intoxication at 9:40 a.m. today after police were called to the 1100 block of South Second Avenue West on a report of a subject who had fallen on the sidewalk. Harbour allegedly failed field sobriety tests at the scene. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
- Jennifer J. Tucker, 41, of Newton was charged with fifth degree theft after store employees at Wal-Mart allegedly observed her place $14.94 worth of clothing items in her purse at 12:12 p.m. Monday. She was released to appear.
- Vincent L. Spoonemore, 59, of Newton was cited for operating a motor vehicle while license suspended and violation of the conditions of a restricted license after police stopped his vehicle for a broken taillight at 3:35 a.m. today in the 200 block of East Seventh Street North. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
