Home sales in Newton shot up to their highest point in three years in 2012, statistics released by the Newton Board of Realtors indicate.
A total of 233 residential properties with a Newton mailing address sold last year, a 23.2 percent increase over the 189 properties sold in 2011 and a 24.5 percent increase over the 187 residential properties sold in 2010.
In December, a total of 17 residential properties sold, the highest level of late-year real estate activity since 2008. Sale prices ranged from $26,000 to $300,000.
Average sales price for the year was $87,699, a level below 2011 average price of $91,894 but ahead of the 2010 price of $87,227.
Total residential listings at the end of December stood at 117, down 19 from the same period in 2011 and well below the 192 seen at the end of December in 2010.
