Dr. Harold Kasimow will present a lecture on "What is Essential to Know About Buddhism" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Congregational United Church of Christ at 308 E. 2nd St. N. in Newton as part of the church's on-going exploration of various religious faiths.
Dr. Kasimow, a professor emeritus of Religious Studies at Grinnell College, was born in a small shelter near Vilnius - now the capital of Lithuania but formerly in Poland. As a 4-year-old boy, he experienced the suffering and violence of the Holocaust during the Nazi occupation of the region. He survived due the efforts of a Polish peasant family that hid and sustained the Kasimow family during the occupation. Since 1949, he has lived in the United States.
Dr. Kasimow's has published a number of books on a range of religious studies. He spoke at the church last year on the topic of Judaism.
The presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, call the church at 792-3773.
