The OB department at Skiff Medical Center was the recent recipient of a collection of 50 handmade baby hats crocheted by the 16-member Sacred Heart Catholic Church prayer shawl ministry.
The group, which has existed since October 2010, crochets and knits prayer shawls for various people, including newlyweds and people who are ill, and crochets about 100 baby hats each month to donate to Skiff and other organizations.
"These hats are just beautiful," said nurse Carla Johnson, who accepted the gifts from the church. "We very much appreciate this, and the moms certainly will, too."
In addition to the regular provision of newborn hats, the group will be establishing a Giving Tree at Skiff from Nov. 29 through Feb. 28, 2013. The tree will be decorated with various items, including scarves, hats and mittens, which will be free to take by anyone in need.
