The Newton Housing Development Corporation will host a condo/town home survey open house event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the Newton Development Corporation board room located on the second floor of the DMACC campus, Room 264.
The purpose of the survey is to enable the NHDC to gather information on what local residents are looking for in the way of condominiums and/or townhouses. Once the information is gathered, the NHDC plans to meet with developers in an effort to push projects forward.
The NHDC recently reinvigorated its efforts to address the wide-variety of housing needs in the community and hired Janet Reents as its executive director.
Reents said the NHDC is addressing a variety of issues locally.
Among them, she said, is discussions with the city on the possible demolition of abandonded residential properties.
In the future, Reents said, the NHDC plans to hold "do-it-yourself workshops" to assist property owners in improving the appearance of their homes.
In addition, the group is exploring the availability of financing to assist with their efforts.
"We are exploring what grants might be available on a household as well as a community level," she said. "Once we learn more we'll get that information out to the public."
Those not able to attend the condo/town home survey open house event may still give their input by completing the survey online. The survey can be found here.
For more information, contact Reents at 641-792-NHDC (6432) or e-mail her at info(at sign)NewtonHDC.org.
