Voters in Iowa can find information about the professional qualifications of every judge on the November retention ballot through a new web site put up today by the Iowa Judiciary.
The 2012 Iowa Voters Judicial Directory contains biographies of each of the 71 judges and four Supreme Court justices on the ballot. Information about each judge's background, education, career, and professional and community activities is included.
The directory also provides information about Iowa's judicial retention elections, as well as factors voters might want to consider when deciding whether to retain a justice or judge.
In additon, The Iowa State Bar Association today released the results of a performance evaluation by Iowa lawyers of the judges on the ballot this fall. The results showed that the 1,450 Iowa attorneys who responded to the survey felt all 75 judges were "well qualified to remain as judges."
Two former Newton attorneys appointed district court judges by former Iowa Gov. Chet Culver in 2010, Brad McCall and Terry Rickers, are standing for retention election in this year's November general election.
Jasper County is in Judicial District 5A.
