AFSCME Iowa Council 61 President Danny Homan will hold a conference call with Iowa reporters at 1 p.m. today to announce a legal filing made in response to Governor Terry Branstad's recent call for state workers to voluntarily pay 20 percent of their health insurance costs.
Earlier this month, Branstad signed Executive Order 78 that allows state employees to voluntarily pay 20 percent of their own healthcare, a move the governor said he planned to make beginning in August. The governor asked all state-wide elected officials and department heads to do the same.
After the announcement, Homan called Branstad's action "outrageous" and would result in state workers taking a massive pay cut.
