To the Newton Independent:
Another Junior Golf program has come and gone at Westwood and once again I want to express my thanks to Brad Sponseller, his staff, and his volunteers.
When you get that many kids together in one place - each of them carrying a potential sword or lightsaber - the possibility for chaos (not to mention injury) is quite high. You would think that, at best, it would go about as smoothly as trying to herd cats.
But that's not how it goes. Not at all. The patience, interest and attention that Brad and his volunteers show each participant creates an environment where the kids really want to learn to play the game, and they want to play well. So they listen, they learn, and they have a lot of fun.
Golf has become one of the things my kids and I enjoy doing together the most, and that's largely because of this Junior Golf program.
So, again, thanks and kudos to all who had a hand in making this year's Junior Golf program successful, safe and enjoyable. And if you ever need a volunteer to help with filling in the creek on Number 11, you know where to find me.
