A Newton attorney is in a Des Moines courtroom this morning arguing against the release of the name of the former Des Moines school district's superintendent's lover.
Machelle Crum was retained by the unnamed individual to stop the release of his name in emails sent by Dr. Nancy Sebring on district computers, an action that led to her early release from the Des Moines distict and the loss of her new position as superintendent of the Omaha school district.
Crum filed an application for intervention in the case brought by Sebring to stop the release of additional emails sought by the Des Moines Register. She is seeking that he be identified only as "Interested Party." She argues that no public purpose would be served by the release of his name. Should her client's name be released, he would be professionally ruined.
The June 2 open records request made by the Register to the Des Moines school district contains Sebring's lover's name.
The court hearing is now over. The judge said he would rule as soon as possible.
