Bill Gannon, a former state lawmaker and farmer from Mingo, has been named to the Rural Iowans for Obama Steering Committee, an organizing effort to gain support of rural Iowa residents in support the president's re-election bid.
The committee, which will hold events around the state in the coming months, will work to draw contrasts between the president's record of supporting rural communities and Mitt Romney's views on issues important to rural Iowans.
"The group will work to promote the president's strong record of supporting rural America and our nation's small businesses, farmers, working families and students by creating rural economies built to last and rewarding small town values like hard work and fairness," the release announcing the organization of the committee said.
Other members of the steering committee include such notable Democrats as Jack Kibbie, retiring president of the Iowa Senate, Patty Judge, former lieutenant governor, and ISU professor Dr. Neil Harl.
