Citizen Police Academy application period open

The Newton Police Department is accepting applications for its 2012 Citizen Police Academy session through Aug. 27.

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to provide an educational opportunity for citizens to learn first hand about police operations and to gain a deeper understanding of today's law enforcement functions.

The program is a 12-week course held from 6 to 9 p.m. with an evening meal provided. The course is free. The class is scheduled to run from Sept. 11 to Dec. 4.

Application requests may be made to Janet Cox at 791-0853 or at janetc(at sign)newtongov.org.

Notification letters will be sent out after the return deadline date.
