The Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens will host its initial "The Birds and the Bees" 5K fun run and 2.5K walk on Saturday, June 16.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the 5K run set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Arboretum. The 2.5K walk will begin at 9:10 a.m. with a free kids run beginning at 10 a.m.
The event will feature a costume contest for the participant dressed most like a gardner, a backyard animal or a flower. A prize will also be awared to the participant with the brightest clothes.
All proceeds from the event will be used to maintain the gardens at the Arboretum. The Arboretum relies solely on donations from the community and continues to operate without any tax-dollar funding.
The fee schedule is as follows:
- 5K - $25 with shirt, $20 without shirt
- 2.5K - $20 with shirt, $15 without shirt
- Kids Run - free
Registration forms are available at the Arboretum during normal business hours or can be downloaded from the Arboretum's web site, www.newtonarboretum.com.
Advance registration is due by June 7. An additional $5 fee will be applied after this date.
