Newton Independent
Registration is now open for a 12-hour mental health training certification course being offered in Newton from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, April 30 and May 1.
The course teaches participants a five-step action plan to assess a situation, select and implement interventions and secure appropriate care for the individual. The certification program introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments. The CPR-like program has been found effective in improving trainees' knowledge of mental disorders, reducing stigma and increasing the amount of help provided to others.
The course, being facilitated by Kelly Kirk, costs $65 for the two-day sessions and includes all materials. It will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 223 E. 4th St. N., in Newton.
For more information or to register for the course, contact Kirk at 641-791-7876 or e-mail kellykirkus(at sign)yahoo.com. Their must be 15 paid registrations by April 25 to hold the training.
