Skiff Medical Center will be asking patients, visitors, doctors and employees to "pardon our progress" during the next few weeks as it works to upgrade the Skiff Emergency Department.
The renovation work in the emergency department includes new flooring, paint, curtains, countertops and some new cabinetry. The funding for the ER upgrade comes through an end-of-year campaign by the Skiff Foundation.
"This renovation wouldn't be possible without the generous contributions we have have received," said Bruce Hoffmeier, director of the Skiff Foundation. "To date, more than $66,000 has been provided by the community, with another $17,000 pledged from employees through payroll deduction."
Stephanie Machin, ER director, has been coordinating communications so that people will know what and when specific areas in the department will be impacted by the renovation work.
"This is going to be a busy few weeks," she said. "We thank everyone in advance for their consideration and flexibility."
Following is a list of important closures and relocations as part of the renovation work:
- The main ER corridor, including the north exterior doors, will be closed from 3 to 11 p.m. Patients and visitors will need to access the ER via the exterior ambulance bay door.
- Elevator 1 will be out of service for a brief time.
- Once the surgical schedule is completed for the day on Wednesday, March 21, all ER services will temporarily relocate to the Outpatient Surgery department for an estimated 48 hours. Employees and visitors are asked to use the north employee entrance adjacent to the Radiology Department.
