A group of Iowa Senate Republicans on Tuesday introduced legislation that would bar labor unions in Iowa from making campaign contributions to candidates seeking office.
Eleven GOP state senators signed on to Senate File 2084 that would bar a labor union from making a monetary or in-kind contribution to a candidate or committee, except for a ballot issue committee.
The bill would not preclude individual members of a union from making contributions.
Currently, Iowa law permits labor unions to make contributions from their general funds (union dues, except public employee union dues) to candidates and other political committees.
