Greg Heartsill, a Marion County business owner, officially announced his candidacy for the new Iowa House District 28, an area that includes southern Jasper County, most of Marion County and the eastern half of Lucas County.
Heartsill, a Republican, announced his candidacy on Monday at the Marion County Courthouse in Knoxville where he outlined his campaign priorities to about 50 people gathered on the lawn for the announcement.
Heartsill selected the spot, he said, to honor Knoxville native and Iowa flag designer Dixie Gebhardt. IN reference to Iowa's motto, "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain," Heartsill said that "we must reclaim these words, not as simple rhetoric, but rather as a foundation for the generations that will succeed us."
The first-time candidate asserted that government does not create jobs, but rather creates an environment for job creation through less regulation and taxes.
Heartsill will be a candidate on the Republican ballot for the June 5, 2012 primary.
