The National Organization for Marriage is soliciting funds from Iowans in advance of its stop in Des Moines on Sunday as part of its Summer for Marriage Tour.
Iowans are receiving pre-recorded messages soliciting funds to help NOM overturn and oppose same-sex marriage provisions. The group says it is working to oust state lawmakers and judges who do not oppose same-sex marriages.
The pre-recorded message states that NOM has received a challenge grant of up to $2 million and is working to raise matching funds.
A rally by NOM in Madison, Wis., on Tuesday that attracted about 50 supporters was met with opposition from about 500 supporters of gay marriage, a news report states.
The tour rolls into Minnesota today with stops planned for St. Paul, St. Cloud and Rochester over the next several days.
The group's Summer of Marriage Tour will roll into Des Moines for a 2 p.m. rally on Sunday at the State Capitol.
