Newton man plans kayak trip to raise awareness for new wilderness area

Radio Iowa reports today that a Newton man plans to kayak down the Des Moines River from Minnesota to Missouri in late April to help raise awareness of plans to develop a wilderness area on the south shore of Lake Red Rock.

John Craun, a retired Maytag worker, plans to kayak the route to bring attention to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation's and Red Rock Lake Association's effort to buy the 47-acre tract that would become known as the Hickory Ridge Wilderness Camp.
