Jasper County Republicans and Democrats face contested primary contests for candidates seeking election to the two seats open on the Jasper County Board of Supervisors in the November election.
Denny Carpenter's 5 p.m. deadline-beating filing late this afternoon makes the Republican Party's June primary election a three-way race for placement on the November ballot.
Carpenter will join former Jasper County Supervisor Bill Ward and Colfax Mayor David Mast, a newcomer to county politics, on the June primary ballot. Carpenter and Ward were ousted by current supervisors John Parsons and Rick Tiedje four years ago.
Parsons joins three other Democrats seeking the nomination on the June primary ballot. Former supervisor Max Worthington, who was ousted in Democratic primary balloting two years ago, will face newcomers Joe Brock, former head of the county political party, and Dennis McDougall of Colfax in June.
Current supervisor Tiedje has opted not to seek a second term.
Worthington, Ward and Carpenter comprised the board's make-up four years ago.
None of the other county elected posts open this fall face competition in primary battles nor face opposition at this time, though the time-line for filing as an independent has not yet passed.
Democrat Mike Jacobsen is seeking election to his first term in office after being appointed to the seat by the current board of supervisors following the death of long-time county attorney Steve Johnson early last year.
Long-time Democrat Jasper County Record Nancy Parrott is also running unopposed as is Jasper County Treasurer Doug Bishop, also running as a Democrat.
