Iowa residents in the market for a new home appliance might want to wait until next month to take advantage of a new rebate program funded by $2.8 million in federal Recovery Act money.
The Iowa Office of Energy Independence will launch the Energy Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program on March 1 that will allow purchasers of new energy efficient appliances to receive rebates on selected models.
The purpose of the program is to replace energy inefficient appliances with models that reduce energy consumption. Households are limited to one appliance type rebate but may receive rebates on different appliance types. The rebates, in the form of a Visa debit card, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until the federal financing runs out. Only appliances purchased on or after March 1 are eligible.
"We anticipate that each Iowan who participates in this program will be able to save hundreds of dollars over the life of their new and more efficient appliance," said Roya Stanley, director of the Iowa Office of Energy Independence. "Buying and using energy efficient appliances helps consumers save money while at the same time they are creating jobs and boosting the economy."
