With the pending departure of obstetrician Dr. Paul Nieves, the Newton Clinic has organized a new plan for coverage of obstetric services while at the same time actively working with Skiff Medical Center on recruiting new physicians to provide OB services.
"Our goal is to recruit two new physicians to provide OB services," said Mark Thayer, clinic administrator. "In the meantime, we will ensure that our OB patients continue to get the high-quality care they expect and deserve."
Under the plan, the following Newton Clinic doctors providing obstetric services are:
- Dr. Teresa Van Zee - Dr. Van Zee is accepting up to six new OB patients per month. However, she is currently pregnant with twins and is anticipating a three-month maternity leave in spring and summer of this year.
- Dr. Pat Edwards - Dr. Edwards is accepting unlimited new OB patients. He will have dedicated OB times in his schedule from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.
- Dr. Leighton Frost - Dr. Frost is accepting unlimited new OB patients. He will also be performing Cesarean sections.
- Dr. Steve Hill - Dr. Hill is not accepting OB patients for prenatal care, however, he will be assisting in OB call for deliveries and will be performing Cesarean sections.
While Drs. Van Zee and Edwards regularly include OB care in the their practices, Drs. Frost and Hill will do so temporarily until the successful recruitment of new physicians to the Newton Clinic.
"We appreciate the flexibility our physicians have shown," Thayer said. "Women and their families want a physician they can trust and who can bring their babies safely into the world. We are committed to offering them that."
