The board of the Iowa Department of Economic Development today approved a $6.5 million forgivable loan to Whirlpool as part of a $20 million capital project at its Amana refrigerator facility.
The award will retain 1,600 jobs at approximately $13 an hour at the former Maytag-owned facility.
Governor Chet Culver touted the significance Whirlpool award, and several others that represent a total of $32.5 million in economic investment in the state.
"This is great news for Amana and great news for Iowa," he said. "This shows that even in tough economic times, good things are happening here in Iowa."
