Sen. Tom Harkin will be in Newton Saturday to tour TPI Composite's wind blade manufacturing facility.
TPI's Newton plant recently received $3.9 million in federal tax credits to expand its local production facility. The grant award for the Newton facility was part of $2.3 billion in Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits for clean energy manufacturing projects across the United States.
The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company received an additional $5.1 million to build a new wind blade facility, tentatively scheduled for construction in Grand Island, Neb.
TPI also recently announced that employment levels at the Newton plant have surpassed 500, a condition of state and local development assistance to be achieved by the end of 2010.
TPI makes wind blades for General Electric.
Harkin is scheduled to have a private tour of the facility from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday with media access available afterward with the U.S. Senator and TPI Plant Manager Crugar Tuttle in the Newton plant's conference room.
