Daily News staff reporter Jessica Lowe was one of three reporters statewide named Genieve Mauck Stoufer Outstanding Young Iowa Journalists, the DM Register reported in its edition today.
The award was presented Friday at the 2010 Iowa Newspaper Association annual convention.
Also receiving the awards were reporters Sara Sleyster of the Indianola newspaper and Eileen Mozinksi of the Dubuque newspaper.
Daily News editor Andy Karr won a first place award for excellence in editorial writing, the Chicago Tribune reported in its online edition on Saturday.
The paper's Web site won first place in the small daily newspaper circulation class, the Tribune reported.
The paper received second place awards for coverage of education and community service. Third place designations were received in total newspaper design and best feature page. Karr also received a third place award for spot news story with Ben Frotschler receiving a third place award for sports column writing.
The paper received three awards in the advertising categories, two first place for category specific advertising and a second place for best special section.
