Reports out of Kellogg today indicate Midwest Manufacturing closed its manufacturing operations last week putting about 20 people out of work, a move the Newton Independent has been unable to confirm through company officials today.
Kellogg city officials said they were not officially notified about the company's closure but confirmed operations apparently ceased last Wednesday.
Calls to the company this morning were being handled by an answering service. Upon redirection to the office of the company's general manager, the call went unanswered and unreturned.
Last August, employees at the automobile parts manufacturing plant complained when they found their paychecks would not clear banks and that their insurance coverage had lapsed. The month before, a Michigan company filed a lawsuit against Midwest claiming it was owed $1.2 for steel products delivered to the plant.
