Skiff Medical Center today announced the appointment of a number of local hospital employees to interim management positions now currently held by representatives of the B.E. Smith consulting firm, the Kansas-based firm that is concluding its work with the city-owned hospital.
"When Steve Long, our new CEO, arrives in mid-January, I believe he will outline a plan for filling these roles permanently in the months to come,," said interim CEO Brett Altman of the appointments. "In the meantime, we have complete confidence in the abilities of the talented and dedicated Skiff employees who will be assuming these roles. These are people known and trusted throughout the organization and I know they will receive a great deal of support from everyone here."
The interim roles and those appointed to the positions are:
- Chief Nursing Officer - Operating Room Director Ann Polking will fill the position held by Susan Howell of B.E. Smith, whose last day is Dec. 23.
- Human Resources Director - HR generalist Ellen Graber will fill the position held by Debbie Hammack of B.E. Smith with Donna Baker placed in charge of payroll. Hammack's last day will be Dec. 23, though she will continue to work off-site on several projects and be available as a resource contact through the duration of her contract, Jan. 15, 2010.
- Chief Financial Officer - Controller Mike Anderson will fill the position held by David Boyer of B.E. Smith. Boyer's last day will be Dec. 23, but will continue working off-site through the duration of his contract, Feb. 5, 2010.
- Quality Manager - Carol Hopkey, RN, will be in charge of quality and risk management and will be assisted by Vicky Norrish, MT (ASCP).
B.E. Smith's Nancy Burke will remain interim director of obstetrics as a search for a permanent director continues.
The role of medical emergency department director has been accepted on a permanent basis by Dr. Tariq Mallick.
"These are a lot of changes, but changes for the good," Altman said. "We promised our employees, and the community as a whole, that Skiff is going to be moving forward. Having our own people in these leadership roles is a big part of that. These are people we know and people we believe in. It's a situation where everyone wins."
