Jasper County's assistant director of buildings and grounds, Adam Sparks, is expected to step into the director's position following a hiring resolution slated for action at Tuesday's Jasper County Board of Supervisors' meeting.
Sparks is expected to assume the post left vacant due to the retirement of former director Doug McClun.
McClun was placed on paid administrative leave on Nov. 10 following an employee review conducted by the supervisors. In approving the paid leave, the supervisors said it would continue "pending an investigation into matters" by the county's human resource director. No further information was provided.
In late October, McClun was ticketed for state wild game violations and subsequently paid nearly $400 in fines, online court records indicate.
On Nov. 23, McClun notified the supervisors that he intended to retire from employment with the county effective at the end of the year. He had worked with the county since 1997.
In accepting McClun's retirement at last week's meeting, the supervisors asked its HR Director, Dennis Simon, to inquire as to whether Sparks might have an interest in the position.
The hiring resolution on Tuesday's agenda to place Sparks in the building and grounds director's position calls for a salary of $50,180.
