The average value of an acre of farmland in Jasper County dropped 3.2 percent this year, an annual survey released Wednesday indicates, a percentage point greater than the state average showing a 2.2 percent drop.
The survey conducted by Iowa State University Extension showed an acre of farmland in Jasper County had an average value of $4,343 in 2009 compared to $4,487 the year before.
The statewide average as of Nov. 1 this year was $4,371 an acre, down 2.2 percent or $97 from the 2008 figure of $4,468.
The statewide drop in average farmland value was the first decline since 1999. In the past decade, owners of Iowa farmland have seen their holdings increase in value by 145 percent on average.
