Lois Vogel and Dr. Gary Richardson won seats to the Skiff Medical Center Board of Trustees in balloting today, unofficial results released about an hour after balloting closed show.
Vogel, the former vice president of patient care services at Skiff, was the landslide top vote getter in today's hospital board election, garnering 1,249 votes. Richardson, a local surgeon, received 767 votes.
Dr. Larry DeCook, a retired Newton eye doctor, finished third in balloting 100 votes behind Richardson at 667.
The unofficial results for the other three candidates running for the two open seats on the five-member board were: Bill Ward, 383; Lonnie White, 349 and Linda Ross, 305.
Vogel and Richardson will assume the seats currently held by Skiff board chair Gary Kahn and John Lee, who both decided not to seek re-election, in January.
In the only contested Newton City Council race, recently appointed council incumbent Jeremy Heaberlin far outdistanced challenger Harold Martin by a margin of 1,312 to 453.
Heaberlin will assume elected control of the seat left vacant due to the death of former at-larger council member Ron Foreman immediately. He will serve the remaining two years on Foreman's term.
Newton Mayor Chaz Allen, second ward councilman Mike Hansen, fourth ward councilman Steve Mullan and at-large councilman Dennis Julius all won re-election unopposed.
The Newton Independent will have follow ups on Wednesday.
