Jasper County's unemployment rate fell to 7.9 percent in October but still remains well ahead of the statewide average of 6.7 percent.
Iowa Workforce Development released local unemployment rate data today showing that Jasper County's jobless rate last month fell from September's rate of 8.1 percent and was well behind August's 9.2 percent rate, the highest monthly average for the year to date.
The data released today showed that even though the unemployment rate fell last month in Jasper County, there was less resident total employment - 16,250 in October compared to 16,320 the month before.
The number of persons counted as unemployed in the county in October was 1,400 compared to 1,430 the month before. August was the high month year-to-date for resident unemployment at 1,600 and the low point for the year for total employment at 15,770.
