Jasper County's Director of Buildings and Grounds, Doug McClun, who has been on paid administrative leave since an employee evaluation earlier this month, gave notice today that he plans to retire from employment with the county effective at the end of the year.
At a meeting of the Jasper County Board of Supervisors, McClun opted to have his employee review conducted in closed session, as allowed by state law. Minutes of the meeting state that upon return to open session, the supervisors voted unanimously to place the buildings and grounds director, employed with the county since Feb. 1997, on administrative leave.
"Motion by Stevenson seconded by Parsons to place Buildings and Grounds Director Doug McClun on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into matters by the Human Resources Director," the minutes from the meeting state.
Jasper County Auditor Dennis Parrott confirmed today that McClun had presented county human resources officials with a one line letter indicating his intention to retire from county effective Dec. 31.
The status of the investigation and the circumstances surrounding it are not being released due to its relation to a personnel matter.
