The League of Women Voters of Jasper County will hold a candidate forum for individuals seeking election in contested City of Newton races at 7 p.m. Thursday at Newton City Hall.
The two candidates seeking election for the at-large seat on the council - incumbent Jeremy Hearberlin and Harold Martin - will debate from 7 to 7:30 p.m. The seat is the only contested race on the Newton City Council.
The six candidates for the two open positions on the Skiff Medical Center Board of Trustees will debate from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Those seeking election are Larry DeCook, Gary Richardson, Linda Ross, Lois Vogel, Bill Ward and Lonnie White.
Polls for the city elections in Newton will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The League is also hosting a candidate forum for two contested races on the Colfax City Council. The candidate forum will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, in the Colfax-Mingo school gymnasium.
In one race in Colfax, Bob Brown is pitted against Karla Jones while Brenda Wheeler faces Brad Magg in the other.
Both forums are open to the public.
