A Newton school board member whose term expires this fall has thrown her name into contention for the appointment of the Newton City Council seat left vacant upon the death of Ron Foreman.
Sheri Benson submitted her name for council consideration on Monday.
Interested city residents have until 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 24, to submit their names for consideration for appointment. The council hopes to make the appointment at its Aug. 3 meeting. The term will run until the November city election. The winner of the at-large seat in November will serve the remaining two years of Foreman's term.
