Home sales in the Newton area remain ahead of last year's levels with sale prices relatively stable but lagging behind the average prices seen in the previous four years.
Twenty-three homes sold or closed in June, bringing the year-to-date total to 117, the Newton Board of Realtors said. Last year at this time, 107 residential properties had sold. June 2007 statistics show that 153 residential properties had sold in the first six months of the year, the high mark for the five-year period.
The average sale price in the market currently sits at $97,651, down from $99,157 the year before. In 2007, the average sale price stood at $109,139, again the peak price for the five-year period.
"Residential sales continue at a pace ahead of last year, both for the month and the year-to-date," said Caren DeVoe, Newton Board of Realtors president. "The average sales price continues to remain steady also. We are fortunate that we have not seen the difficulties or downturn of the bigger markets."
The price range of residential properties sold in the Newton area in June ranged from $27,000 to $455,000.
The statistics provided by the local realtor board include single family homes, condominiums and townhouses. The statistics include properties outside the Newton city limits but with a Newton mailing address. The information includes Newton Board of Realtors sales only.
