Newton Independent
Opponents of efforts to eliminate the federal deductibility portion of the Iowa tax code are hitting the phones today in an effort defeat the proposal.
A member of group calling themselves "Hope and Change for Iowa," two catch words used in the Barack Obama campaign for president, contacted the Newton Independent today outlining why approval of House File 807, the measure eliminating federal tax deductibility in Iowa, would be detriment to all Iowans.
The caller went on to ask whether he could transfer the call to the switchboard at the Iowa House of Representatives in order to allow me the opportunity to voice my displeasure about the proposal to Rep. Paul Bell, D-Newton.
A quick Internet search found no information on the "Hope and Change for Iowa" organization.
The Iowa House could take up the measure as early as tomorrow.
Supporters of the House File are also telephoning Rep. Bell's constituents. A recorded message from "Jennifer" asks that callers connect to the House switchboard and urge the Newton lawmaker to support the move. Jennifer says the change in the federal deductibility law will benefit all Iowans.
